DES MOINES, IOWA (January 30, 2020) — A judge has ordered a Moravia lumber company to pay the state $25,718.50 after finding it had cut down dozens of trees in Stephens State Forest in Lucas County.

Moravia Hardwoods LLC is also banned from buying timber for one year after its owner lied to the state on a bond-renewal application, Fifth District Judge Martha L Mertz ruled this week.

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 27, 2020) — For the second year in a row, auto-related problems topped all categories of complaints reported to the Iowa Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division in 2019.

Other top categories were impostor scams and complaints over media services, home improvement projects and home goods and services.

Overall complaints totaled 3,225, a 7.7% decrease from 2018. That’s the first decrease since at least 2014.

 

DES MOINES — Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has appointed Jennifer Easler as consumer advocate for regulated utility issues.  

Easler replaces Mark Schuling, who retired January 10. Schuling had served as consumer advocate since January 2011.  

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 10, 2020) — A Belle Plaine man has agreed to pay the state $35,000 for illegally burning trailer homes containing asbestos and to refrain from further environmental violations. 

 

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 9, 2020) — Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller will become the longest-serving attorney general in US history on Saturday, January 11.

Miller breaks the record of Michigan Attorney General Frank J Kelley, who served from December 28, 1961, to January 1, 1999. Kelley served 13,519 days, or 37 years and five days.
